Dustin James Fallen Police Officer Memorial Fund

Date Established: December 27, 2017

Established in memory of Dustin James, a young Village of Walden Police Officer who died in an off-duty motorcycle accident, this fund awards two scholarships annually – one each to Valley Central High School and Beacon High School graduates.

This fund may also award grants to support the Summer Youth Police Cadet Program in the City of Beacon.


Dustin James Fallen Police Officer Memorial Scholarship

The Dustin James Fallen Police Officer Memorial Scholarship awards four (4) scholarships in the amount of $500 each to graduating seniors from Valley Central High School and Beacon High School who plan to continue their education or service following graduation. This scholarship supports students committed to careers in law enforcement, emergency services, or military service, honoring Dustin James’ dedication to public safety.

Priority is given to students pursuing a career in law enforcement. Additional priority consideration is given to applicants who have participated in a youth police cadet program or who are active members of emergency services with at least one year of service in good standing.

Eligibility & Application Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a graduating senior from Valley Central High School or Beacon High School
  • Plan to enroll in a two- or four-year college or pursue military enlistment
  • Intend to pursue a career in law enforcement, emergency services, or the military

Applicants must also submit an essay of fewer than 500 words addressing:

  • What inspired them to pursue a career in law enforcement or emergency services
  • How their experiences—such as participation in a youth police cadet program or service in emergency services—have influenced this decision

Students must create a profile in the CFOSR Scholarship Portal to view and apply for scholarship opportunities connected to this fund. Once logged in, applicants will be able to access the Universal Scholarship Application and submit any required materials.
