Jackson Truett Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Jackson Truett Champlin who tragically passed away after an undetected medical condition on February 21, 2021 at just 54 days old. He will forever be a shining light that exemplified eternal love, everlasting joy, and astonishing faith.

This fund awards a scholarship to a graduating student from James I. O’Neill High School who has made meaningful contributions to their community and demonstrates a propensity to serve others. Preference will be given to a student affiliated with the West Point community or pursuing higher education in nursing, healthcare, fire, law enforcement, or emergency medical services.

Jackson Truett Memorial Scholarship

The Jackson Truett Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Jackson Truett by supporting students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to service and community involvement. This scholarship recognizes graduating seniors who have meaningfully contributed their time, care, or resources to helping others.

One (1) scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded annually.

Preference may be given to students affiliated with the West Point community or those pursuing higher education in nursing, healthcare, fire service, law enforcement, or emergency medical services.

Eligibility & Application Requirements

Applicants must:

Be a graduating senior from James I. O’Neill High School
Short Answer Questions (2-3 sentences each):
- Where are you planning on attending school or starting your apprenticeship?
- What is your short-term post graduate goal (education/entering work force)?
- Why did you select this career path?
- Do you have any work experience?
- Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
Submit a personal essay of at least 500 words describing how they have used their time, love, or resources to serve others and make a positive impact in their community
Submit two (2) letters of recommendation:
- One personal reference
- One professional or educational reference

Michael’s commitment to helping others was further strengthened by a profound personal loss. Following the tragic passing of his daughter, Jordyn, Michael transformed grief into purpose by establishing the Jordyn Seiden Memorial Fund through the Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan and Rockland. Through this initiative, he launched the inaugural 2 Infinity & Beyond Halloween 5K Run/Walk, an event dedicated to raising awareness and support for organizations serving individuals facing mental health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

One of the fund’s first major philanthropic commitments will be a gift to Jawonio in support of its new facility in Valley Cottage. The contribution will help create the Jordyn Seiden Art Therapy Room, a dedicated space that honors Jordyn’s memory while providing people in mental health recovery opportunities for healing, self-expression, and hope. The room stands as a lasting tribute to the belief that every person seeking support deserves compassion, understanding, and the opportunity to thrive.
