Created to celebrate the life of this vibrant educator, wife, mother, daughter, and esteemed community leader who passed away on August 19, 2012 from injuries sustained in the crash of a small airplane. Established by her loving husband and college sweetheart, Erik, this fund will provide scholarships to graduating Goshen High School students who wish to study abroad. Jane’s love of life, her infectious energy, believer in education, passion for the work of the Goshen Rotary Club and international exchange program for students from around the world, and work as a passionate advocate for the music and arts programs as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Development in the Goshen Central School District, will be celebrated and remembered through this scholarship fund.


Jane Unhjem Memorial Scholarship

The Jane Unhjem Memorial Scholarship was established to support Goshen High School students seeking the opportunity to study abroad. Preference is given to the graduating senior selected by the Goshen Rotary Club for its Rotary Youth Exchange Program. In years when a Rotary Youth Exchange candidate is not selected, the scholarship may be awarded to a graduating senior from Goshen High School who has demonstrated strong involvement in the school’s music program.

One (1) scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded annually.

Eligibility & Application Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be the graduating senior selected by the Goshen Rotary Club for participation in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, or
  • Be a graduating senior from Goshen High School who has been actively involved in the school’s music program and is recommended by Goshen High School music teachers

Applicants must also submit:

  • A music activities résumé listing in-school and out-of-school music involvement
  • A brief essay describing how participation in music has influenced their education
  • A brief essay explaining how they plan to continue using music to enrich their life and community after graduation
