The Coach Peter Rickard Scholarship Fund

Peter Rickard was a loving and cherished husband, father, brother, friend, coach, and mentor. He was passionate about helping others, especially kids, whether it was out in the community or on the basketball court. Basketball was an important part of his life, but the love and passion he coached with was about much more than wins and losses. Most importantly, he wanted to show his players what it meant to be hardworking, loyal, caring, supportive, and to be a person of character.

The Coach Peter Rickard Scholarship Fund was established to celebrate and honor Peter’s giving spirit with the goal of further helping a student athlete in their pursuit towards a college degree. It will be awarded annually to a Chester Academy High School Varsity Girls basketball player who plans to attend college and who possesses the above traits that Peter exemplified and instilled in his players. Peter’s family is incredibly proud of what he accomplished and the impact he had on those around him and are honored to continue his legacy through this scholarship.

Coach Peter Rickard Memorial Scholarship

The Coach Peter Rickard Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Peter Rickard’s giving spirit and lasting impact on his student-athletes. This scholarship is awarded annually to a Chester Academy High School Varsity Girls basketball player who exemplifies the character, leadership, and dedication that Coach Rickard instilled in his players and who plans to continue their education after high school.

One (1) scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded each year.

Eligibility & Application Requirements

Applicants must:

Be a graduating senior from Chester Academy High School
Be a member of the Varsity Girls basketball team
Be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or post-high school vocational program

Michael’s commitment to helping others was further strengthened by a profound personal loss. Following the tragic passing of his daughter, Jordyn, Michael transformed grief into purpose by establishing the Jordyn Seiden Memorial Fund through the Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan and Rockland. Through this initiative, he launched the inaugural 2 Infinity & Beyond Halloween 5K Run/Walk, an event dedicated to raising awareness and support for organizations serving individuals facing mental health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

One of the fund’s first major philanthropic commitments will be a gift to Jawonio in support of its new facility in Valley Cottage. The contribution will help create the Jordyn Seiden Art Therapy Room, a dedicated space that honors Jordyn’s memory while providing people in mental health recovery opportunities for healing, self-expression, and hope. The room stands as a lasting tribute to the belief that every person seeking support deserves compassion, understanding, and the opportunity to thrive.
