The Matthew R. Bertholf Scholarship Fund

Date Established: June 4, 2014

The Matthew R. Bertholf Scholarship Fund was established to honor and remember Matthew “Matty” Bertholf, a lifelong Sullivan County resident whose passion for the trades and applied technology embodied the spirit of hands-on learning, problem-solving, and community commitment.

A graduate of Tri-Valley High School’s Class of 1999, Matty went on to attend St. Lawrence University before returning home to Sullivan County, where he built a career rooted in the skilled trades. He was known for his ability to work with his hands—whether building, repairing, woodworking, or masonry—and for his natural talent in identifying problems and creating practical solutions. Above all, Matty was always willing to lend a helping hand and took pride in contributing his skills to the community he loved.

This scholarship was created to carry forward Matty’s legacy by supporting students who aspire to follow a similar path in the trades and applied technology. Through this fund, his commitment to craftsmanship, hard work, and community continues to live on through the next generation.
